Electronics Recycling  

eWaste is now being accepted at Puhi Metals on 3951 Puhi Road. Puhi Metals is open Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 4 pm. Phone number: 808-254-6919. For a full list of accepted items please visit the County’s website.

Household Hazardous Waste

Household Hazardous Waste is typically labeled as corrosive, flammable, explosive, or poisonous. If this kind of waste is handled improperly, it can cause substantial harm to human health and safety, as well as the environment.

The County Recycling Office sponsors an annual FREE Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event.  Please call 241-4841 for more information. You may also visit the County’s website to determine if your waste is hazardous and find out how it should be disposed of.


Composting is a natural way to recycle fruit and vegetable scraps and green/yard waste to create a nutrient rich soil that can be reused in your garden.   Your flowers and plants will thank you!    

FREE Composting Bins are available at the County!  These are available every Friday from 8:00am-3:30pm at the Kauai Resource Center (near the Lihue airport).  Call 241-4195 for more information.


Residential Battery Recyclingicon_large_resource_center_sign

The Kauaʻi Resource Center accepts household batteries for recycling, M-F from 7:45am-4:30pm.  Be sure to sort your batteries and place them in the appropriate barrel (see labels).

Terminals of batteries 9 volt and higher must be taped prior to recycling. Please visit the County’s Website for more details.

Car batteries are accepted at Costco, Napa Auto Parts, PS&D Tires and E-H International.


Motor Oil Recycling

Residential motor oil from do-it-yourself oil changes is accepted for recycling at the following locations:

Hanalei Transfer Station

Kapaʻa Transfer Station

Līhuʻe Transfer Station

Hanapēpē Transfer Station

Transfer Station Hours: 7:15 am – 3:15 pm

Kekaha Landfill from 8am-4pm closed for lunch 12:00 to 12:30 pm daily

The County Recycling Office offers FREE
motor oil drainer containers for used motor oil and filters.

Green Waste Recycling

Green waste is shredded into mulch that can be reused as a ground cover or as a carbon base for composting. Green Waste is accepted at the County Transfer Stations or the Kekaha Landfill.


Metals Recyclingicon_large_crane

Appliances, scrap metal, depressurized propane tanks, abandoned or junk vehicles, and other small motorized goods can be recycled at the Puhi Metals Recycling Facility, M-Sat from 8am-4pm.


Compact Fluorescent Lights

Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) can be recycled at Home Depot in Līhuʻe or during the County’s annual Hazardous Waste Collection event.
